Apple sends iOS 27.1 to iPhone Duo only, leaving other models on 27.0.1
The company will skip the 27.1 release for existing devices and move them directly to 27.2 next week.

Apple pushed iOS 27.1 to the new iPhone Duo on the night of October 22, leaving the rest of its user base without the update. Owners of other iPhone models see version 27.0.1 as the latest available software in their settings menus.
The company chose to bypass version 27.1 for those devices entirely. Instead of a standard point release that updates all compatible hardware, Apple will move non-Duo users directly to iOS 27.2. This creates a temporary gap in the version history for the majority of the installed base.
The split release strategy appears designed to maintain secrecy. Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo last month, but many specific features and design details have only recently become public. By isolating the 27.1 build, the company avoided a beta cycle that might have leaked information before the official launch.
Engineering simplicity likely contributed to the decision. The Duo introduces custom iOS designs and features that required separate management. Keeping unrelated models out of the 27.1 build reduced the complexity of internal testing and deployment.
iOS 27.2 has been in beta testing for approximately one month. The upcoming release includes Suggested Actions in Messages, a redesigned Apple Music app, and user profiles for Apple TV. The update also brings an overhauled Up Next queue for Apple Podcasts and Dual Capture for FaceTime group calls.
Apple plans to release iOS 27.2 to all users next week. For owners of non-Duo devices, the update will include all new features without any reference to the skipped 27.1 version. Siri AI support for additional languages is also part of the 27.2 package.
