Four people were treated for gunshot wounds after a vehicle fired on attendees outside a boxing venue in Loganholme, south of Brisbane. The incident occurred at 8:15 pm on Saturday evening, interrupting an event intended to bring the local community together.
Queensland Police received a call regarding shots fired from a car at the licensed premises. Officers confirmed that the vehicle was seen leaving the scene before the suspects escaped. The four injured individuals were transported to hospital, where medical staff are currently assessing their conditions.
The venue, Fitzys Loganholme on Bryants Road, was hosting the Logan City Titles Fight Night. Police Deputy Commander Chris Stream described the scene as confronting. He noted that several people sustained gunshot wounds during the brief exchange of fire.
Logan Mayor Jon Raven told the Today show that residents in the area are frightened by the event. Raven stated that this has sent a shockwave through Logan, noting that the community had never seen something like this before. He said his thoughts were with the victims, the staff, and everyone present at the event.
Raven emphasized that similar nights are typically family-friendly environments where many children are present. He warned that the trauma of the shooting will impact those children for the rest of their lives. The mayor explained that the night was organized to steer children away from violence and help them reconnect with their communities.
The event organizers posted a statement on social media on Sunday morning. They described the fight night as a community showcase for local talent and hard work. The statement asserted that such incidents have no place in the boxing community or the wider public sphere.
Police have not yet identified the offenders, who remain at large. Authorities said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. They are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact them.
