Long Beach resident Mia Amorosa returned to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital this Thursday to meet the medical team that treated her after a severe stroke in August 2025. The visit allows her to thank the doctors directly for the emergency procedure that restored her mobility.

Amorosa collapsed on her bathroom floor that August day and was unable to move her arm or leg. Her daughter discovered her approximately two hours later and called 911. Amorosa stated that the quick transfer to the hospital was critical. "Minutes matter when you're having a stroke," she said. "I can't imagine moving from one place to another for the treatment I needed. I believe it saved my life."

Doctors at Mount Sinai South Nassau removed a clot in Amorosa's brain using a mechanical thrombectomy. This intervention relies on the hospital's biplane imaging system to diagnose and treat neurological conditions. Dr. M. Travis Caton of the hospital noted the emotional impact of such outcomes. "It's why we do what we do, stories like this are validating the work that we put in," he said.

Hospital officials announced that Mount Sinai South Nassau has expanded its emergency stroke treatment capabilities to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The facility now includes three neurovascular surgeons and an additional biplane imaging suite. This infrastructure is designed to provide continuous interventional treatment for patients with acute conditions.

Amorosa reflected on her recovery process since the surgery. "I was able to make all the important moments and I still am thankfully," she told the team. "They truly saved my life."

Medical staff plan to provide further details on how the biplane imaging technology functions and its specific benefits for stroke patients in the coming weeks.
