Nick Mohammed will take on the lead role in The Traitors: Acts of Betrayal, a new stage production opening for previews in June 2027. Rehearsals for the project begin in January. The show is a cycle of five plays featuring a constant cast of 12 contestants. Each play shares the first 10 minutes, but the narrative diverges based on which character is designated as a Traitor. John Finnemore wrote the plays. Studio Lambert and Neal Street are co-producing the production, which will run at the Gillian Lynne Theatre.
Mohammed’s selection for the role follows his performance in the first season of Celebrity Traitors on Sky. His appearance in that 2025 reality series drew an average live audience of 11.1 million viewers, marking the largest single-show audience of that year. He described the role as a turning point for his career offerings. He noted that he can clearly distinguish between the work he was offered before and after the show. He credited the franchise with securing his gig hosting this year's Olivier Awards.
The actor, who is 46, built his early career on the stage before moving into television. He developed his character Mr. Swallow, a magician, while studying for a PhD in seismology at Cambridge. He performed with the Cambridge Footlights alongside writers Jonny Sweet, Sarah Solemani, and Joe Thomas. He took the character to the Edinburgh Fringe, where it evolved into a full-hour set. He has since performed the show in various locations, including a sold-out venue in New York with 1,200 seats.
Mohammed’s global recognition expanded significantly with his role as Nate Shelley in Ted Lasso. He initially declined the part because he was filming Intelligence, a series he co-wrote. Showrunner Bill Lawrence persuaded him to join the project. The series, created by Lawrence, helped establish Apple TV+ as a major streaming platform. It earned Mohammed two Emmy nominations. He described the shift in his career as a slow burn that prepared him for sudden global success.
His current television work includes Sky’s legal thriller War, which received a two-season order. Directed by Ben Taylor and written by George Kay, the series stars Dominic West and Sienna Miller. Mohammed plays Michael, a lawyer described as arrogant and married to his job. He noted that his character is a loner who does not know how to speak to women. He will share screen time with Celia Imrie, who was also in Celebrity Traitors. The second season of War is already filmed, though it will not air for another year.
Mohammed remains active in the reality television space as well. Season two of Celebrity Traitors is currently airing in the United Kingdom. He has filmed an episode titled Uncloaked that has not yet been broadcast. He stated that the upcoming season contains major moments. He compared the unpredictability of the show to the unpredictability of a career in the entertainment industry. The current season is concluding with a finale this Friday.
The actor continues to practice magic, a hobby he pursued from age 16. He performed close-up magic at weddings and hotels before his fame grew. He cited the art form as aspirational and optimistic. He received a Paul Daniels magic set as a child and joined a local club in Leeds. He funded his college education through these performances. He performed at the 2012 wedding of Simon Bird.
Mohammed’s career spans film, television, and stage. He appeared in Bridget Jones’s Baby and Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie in 2016. He has worked on Fresh Meat, Stath Lets Flats, Inside No. 9, and Slow Horses. He described his path as a slow burn that allowed him to handle global fame. He believes the industry teaches failure but rarely teaches how to manage success on a large scale. He is currently preparing for his West End debut in The Traitors: Acts of Betrayal.
