The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles collide on Monday night in Philadelphia, presenting a critical opportunity for both franchises to reassert their status in the NFC East.
Both teams currently hold 2-4 records and trail division leader New York, which sits at 3-2-1. The division has experienced an unprecedented slump, as no team recorded a victory in the previous two weeks. This marks the first occurrence of such a performance streak in a division since the 1970 merger. The Eagles are enduring a four-game losing streak, a streak not seen by them since 2020. Their offense has managed only 58 points across those four defeats. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is on injured reserve and is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to blood clots. This absence places Tanner McKee, a backup for his first two seasons, in command of the offense.
McKee received only two days of practice with the first team before last week's loss to Carolina, a game that served as his first meaningful start. This week, he benefits from a full week of preparation alongside first-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. McKee stated, "I feel like I have a good preparation process," and noted that he intends to spend more time consulting with the coaching staff. The Eagles also face challenges in the backfield. Running back Saquon Barkley has missed over two games with a hamstring injury, while backups Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby are also injured. Carson Steele, recently signed from the practice squad, suffered a shoulder injury in the previous game. Dameon Pierce was the only runner for Philadelphia in that contest, gaining 35 yards. The Cowboys defense has allowed 4.7 yards per carry this season.
Dallas carries its own offensive and defensive concerns. The team ranks 30th in the league in defense under first-year coordinator Christian Parker. The Cowboys scored only 29 points in their last two losses, including a 23-13 defeat by Green Bay last week. For the first time since 2019, Dallas has scored fewer than 20 points in consecutive starts by Dak Prescott. Owner Jerry Jones indicated at the NFL's annual fall meeting on Wednesday that further coaching changes are not anticipated this season. He characterized the recent hiring of Mike Pettine as a strategic and unique move.
Several individual milestones are on the line in this matchup. Javonte Williams has recorded seven rushing touchdowns in the first six games, the second-most for a Cowboys player in that span behind Emmitt Smith. CeeDee Lamb holds 48 receptions, ranking third in the league and leading the franchise in history for a six-game stretch. He is also approaching 8,000 career receiving yards. Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert needs one reception to secure third place on the franchise's all-time receptions list.
The Cowboys are favored by four points, with a 3-3 record against the spread compared to the Eagles' 1-5. Dallas holds a 72-58 lead in the all-time series and won the most recent meeting 24-21 in November 2025. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. CST on ESPN. The Eagles will play at Washington on November 1 before hosting the Giants, a stretch that will likely determine the viability of their season.
