Dallas Stars fans saw a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets at American Airlines Center on Thursday night. The win came in overtime when Roope Hintz scored on a breakaway at the 3:47 mark. The goal capped a night where the Stars relied heavily on their veteran defensemen to survive a high-scoring shootout.

Miro Heiskanen did not record a goal, but his pass decided the outcome. After Jason Robertson blocked a Winnipeg scoring chance, Heiskanen sent the puck to Hintz for the decisive strike. The sequence followed a defensive stop, turning a recovery into an immediate attack. Hintz finished the play to secure the point for Dallas.

The defensive workload was concentrated on two players. With Esa Lindell scratched from the lineup, Heiskanen played 29 minutes and 20 seconds. Thomas Harley logged 28 minutes and 27 seconds. The next most minutes came from Lian Bichsel at 17 minutes and 47 seconds. Nils Lundkvist, Tyler Myers, and Kyle Capobianco also appeared on the ice. These totals indicate that the Stars leaned on their top two defensemen for the majority of the game.

Winnipeg controlled parts of the game despite a large deficit in shots. David Johnston scored early in the second period. Gabriel Vilardi and Kyle Connor added goals later in that period to put the Jets ahead. Dallas remained behind until Hintz scored a six-on-five equalizer with two minutes left in regulation. The Stars then tied the game again to force the extra period.

The shooting numbers favored Dallas, which outshot Winnipeg 38-19. Connor Hellebuyck made 35 saves to keep the Jets within reach. The Stars could limit Winnipeg's high-danger chances, but they struggled to convert their own attempts into goals until the late stages of regulation and overtime.

Heiskanen finished the game with five shots, one block, and the winning assist. Harley did not score. The absence of Lindell left the team without a set rotation change for future games. The schedule did not establish a return date for the Finnish defenseman. The Stars completed their assignment for the night with a single finishing touch from Hintz.
