The Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed on Sunday, November 1, that a 17-year-old girl from Utah is safe after being missing since May 2025. Local police in Oregon brought the teenager to safety following a tip from the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office.
The girl, who was reported missing from Garden City, Utah, had been absent for one year and six months. Agents did not specify the exact location in Oregon where she was discovered. She was found in the company of a 39-year-old man, who has been taken into custody.
FBI Director Kash Patel addressed the rescue in a public statement released on Sunday. He stated that local police acted on specific information provided by the Salt Lake City field office. Patel expressed gratitude that the teenager could return home. He also directed a message to individuals using gore groups to target children, saying the FBI is using every available tool to combat violent extremism.
The name of the arrested man has not been released to the public. The bureau indicated that the investigation remains active. No further details regarding the case were provided at the time of the announcement.
The discovery concludes a search that began in the spring of 2025. The girl was identified as a minor at the time of her disappearance. Authorities in Oregon and Utah are currently coordinating on the next steps of the inquiry.
