Anthony Gutierrez, a 30-year-old Los Angeles police officer, was arrested on Monday at 3 p.m. for allegedly dragging his romantic partner out of a home in the San Fernando Valley at gunpoint.

Gutierrez was off duty during the incident. Officers from the LAPD Mission Division took him into custody and booked him on suspicion of kidnapping, according to two law enforcement sources familiar with the case. The sources requested anonymity because the matter involves an internal department investigation.

Lt. Elpidio Orozco, an LAPD spokesperson, confirmed the arrest in a statement to The Times. He noted that bail was set at $150,000. The department declined to provide further details, citing an ongoing investigation.

One source described the sequence of events as a domestic dispute at the Sylmar residence. The partner called 911 for help, a call Gutierrez apparently did not hear. He then allegedly dragged the woman from the house into the street while pointing a gun at her. Responding officers arrested him on the scene.

Gutierrez joined the LAPD in March 2022. Department staffing records show he previously worked in the Newton Division in South L.A. before transferring to the Foothill Division in the Valley. He did not immediately respond to an email sent to his department account.

A record of the arrest does not appear in the online database maintained by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which manages county jails. This suggests Gutierrez may have been held in LAPD detention facilities.

Independent reports have previously found that LAPD investigations into domestic violence allegations against its officers have often fallen short. In a private hearing, a department official admitted to underreporting misdemeanor domestic abuse allegations after California passed a law mandating reporting and triggering potential permanent bans from police work.
