Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow directed a 462-yard passing attack and scored a rushing touchdown to lead his team to a 43-36 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The final margin of seven points had never appeared in NFL records prior to this Week 8 contest, making it the 1,098th distinct final score in the league’s 107-year history.

The scoring sequence required unusual defensive outcomes to reach the unprecedented total. With the game tied at 21 points in the third quarter, the Bengals recorded a safety to take a 23-21 lead. That two-point gain set the stage for a final score that would not have existed if the game had ended with a standard touchdown or field goal difference.

Burrow’s statistical performance was central to the offensive output. He completed 462 yards of passing for five touchdowns and added a nine-yard rushing score. He became only the second player in NFL history to accumulate at least 450 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown in a single game. Although he threw three interceptions, his receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins each surpassed 140 receiving yards.

The game featured a dramatic late shift in momentum. Tennessee held a 36-29 lead with under four minutes remaining in regulation. Burrow led an 81-yard drive that concluded with an 18-yard pass to Higgins, tying the score with 1:17 left. In overtime, the Bengals possessed the ball first, and Burrow drove the team to the end zone for the decisive score.

This result extends the Bengals’ recent streak of rare scorelines. Their previous unique final score occurred in 2022 during a 22-18 win over the New England Patriots. For Tennessee, it is the first such occurrence since a 45-26 victory over the Detroit Lions in 2020. The 2026 season has produced three unique scorelines so far, a number that trails the four recorded in the previous year.

As the pool of possible final scores shrinks with each season, new unique outcomes become statistically less frequent. The gap between this game and the previous unique scoreline was nearly two months. The 43-36 result adds to a growing list of historical anomalies that require specific, non-standard scoring events to materialize.
