Lakeridge boys soccer secured a dominant victory in the second round of the Class 6A state tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The Pacers defeated West Linn 8-0 at Lakeridge High School to advance to the quarterfinals for the sixth consecutive year.
Jackson Romero led the offensive effort with four goals. The junior forward scored on a long pass that bypassed West Linn keeper J.D. Moore, then added another after collecting the ball near the top of the penalty box following a throw-in by Daylon Wood. Romero finished the game with two more goals in a span of just 10 seconds in the second half.
Callum Morrison scored the first two goals for the Pacers. The senior forward converted a 20-yard free kick into the top left corner with 22:36 left in the first half. One minute and 15 seconds later, he finished a move initiated by Romero to make the score 2-0. The game ended early with 9:36 remaining on the clock after Milan Masic scored in the 70th minute.
West Linn started the contest strongly but could not hold the lead. The Lions earned the first shot on goal through a header by senior captain Jonas Taylor, which Pacer goalkeeper Collin Cernitz handled three minutes in. The score remained tied at 0-0 until the 22nd minute. The loss ended West Linn's two-game winning streak and concludes its season with an 8-6-3 record.
Lakeridge improved to 12-1-1 after winning the Three Rivers League. The No. 4 seed will host crosstown rival Lake Oswego in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 7. Lake Oswego earned its berth by defeating 2025 state champion Beaverton 1-0 earlier on Tuesday. The Lakers enter the match with an 11-4-1 record.
West Linn captains Jonas Taylor and Sam Leedy credited their young roster for the competitive effort. Taylor noted that only six players had prior varsity experience. Leedy said the team worked hard to remain competitive despite losing many seniors last spring. Both captains emphasized the growth shown by new varsity players throughout the 2026 season.
