Russian officials announced that 613 drones flew toward Moscow Oblast between the evening of October 28 and the morning of October 29. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that 231 of these aircraft were destroyed while approaching the capital, while the majority were shot down further away.
The attack began as restrictions were placed on major airports. Rosaviatsia, the Federal Air Transport Agency, limited arrivals and departures at Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports. Two planes traveling from Türkiye to Moscow were diverted from Vnukovo during the initial restrictions. Zhukovsky lifted its limits one hour later, but the other two airports continued to accept aircraft only with special approval.
At 22:00 local time, an air-raid warning issued for Moscow Oblast. The media outlet Astra reported hearing three explosions near Naro-Fominsk, a town located 56 kilometers from the main ring road. These blasts occurred without accompanying drone noise. Additional explosions were heard in the direction of Kaluga Oblast.
Sobyanin provided updates throughout the night regarding the number of intercepted drones. He first claimed 57 had been shot down. Later, he reported 49 more were downed, bringing the count to 64 by 02:15. By 04:00, the total reached 109. At 05:00, he added another 30 to the tally. His final count for the period was 613.
In each update, Sobyanin noted that emergency services were working at sites where debris had fallen. Russian authorities did not report specific damage or casualties resulting from the attack. The mayor’s final statement confirmed that most drones were neutralized well before they reached the city center.
This was the second consecutive night of drone attacks on Moscow in the current month. The series of interceptions involved multiple airports and resulted in temporary disruptions to air traffic across the region. The official count reflects the total number of drones identified as heading toward the oblast during the specified timeframe.
