Former President Barack Obama called for an end to what he described as two years of chaos, cruelty, and corruption during a campaign rally in Ohio. Speaking on Saturday, Obama urged voters to reject the current administration as the midterm elections approach.
The former president criticized President Donald Trump’s foreign policy decisions, specifically the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran. Obama characterized the war as unnecessary and stated that the administration has spent $2 trillion on the effort. He argued that Ohio residents now have a chance to declare that enough is enough.
Obama also addressed the governor’s race, focusing on an attack advertisement aired by Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy against Democrat Amy Acton. The ad features Donna Arthur, Acton’s mother, who disputes her daughter’s accounts of childhood homelessness and sexual abuse by her stepfather. Arthur urged voters to withhold their support for Acton based on these differing narratives.
Acton, who has not seen her mother since 1978, maintains her account of the abuse. Her brother has corroborated the claim, and the stepfather was charged with rape before his death in 2004. Obama sided with Acton, noting that she spoke movingly about the neglect, abuse, and homelessness she endured during her formative years.
The rally featured both Acton and former Senator Sherrod Brown, who is seeking a return to the Senate to challenge incumbent Republican Jon Husted. Current polling data indicates that Democrats hold a slight lead in both the gubernatorial and Senate races. However, analysts expect the final results to be narrow, with both contests remaining highly competitive.
