Two individuals have been arrested on suspicion of murder in the case of Christina Downer, according to law enforcement sources. The detentions mark a procedural shift in an investigation that has spanned nearly a year since the woman was reported missing.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Division are leading the inquiry. This unit manages some of the department's most complex cases. Sources stated that the arrests occurred after a series of investigative steps that included a search of a specific property in Joshua Tree.

In early October, investigators conducted an extensive sweep of an Airbnb property in the desert town. The search involved K-9 units and personnel from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Officials said they were looking for evidence related to Downer's disappearance, though they did not confirm a specific search for remains.

Downer, age 38, was last contacted in late November 2025. Her brother, Jimmy Fowlie, a writer for Saturday Night Live, reported her missing in December 2025. In a post dated April 29, Fowlie stated that his sister was no longer alive. He noted that her phone and social media accounts were compromised in the weeks before she vanished, which allowed others to hide her absence and create a false narrative that she was going off the grid.

Fowlie wrote that prayers for his sister's safe return had shifted toward seeking truth and accountability. He said the individuals who possessed her phone used it to request money and maintain a fabricated story. The LAPD continued its investigation despite Fowlie's public declaration of her death.
