Anthropic is preparing for a public listing that analysts expect to value the company at up to $2 trillion. This anticipated move will likely generate significant returns for both early and later stage investors. Even before the stock goes public, the stakes held by various venture capitalists and individual backers are already worth billions based on the company's latest private market valuation of $965 billion. According to data from Bloomberg, several key players have seen their investments grow substantially.

One of the most notable individual investors is Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google. Schmidt invested in Anthropic's Series A round in 2021 when the startup had a valuation of just $461 million. As of today, he owns approximately 1% of the company. At the current private valuation, his stake is worth nearly $10 billion. This represents a massive increase from his initial entry point into the AI lab.

Iconiq, an investment firm, made a large late-stage bet on Anthropic last year. At that time, the company was already valued at $183 billion, and Iconiq wrote a check for $6 billion. That investment has since grown to a value of $17 billion. If the company reaches the higher end of its expected IPO valuation, Iconiq's position could potentially double again.

Menlo Ventures has been a significant supporter of the AI lab, having led its Series D funding round. Over time, the firm has invested more than $1 billion in Anthropic. This cumulative investment now represents a stake worth approximately $14 billion. Menlo's early and sustained commitment has positioned it to benefit greatly from the company's rapid growth.

Sequoia, a well-known venture capital firm, entered the picture more recently, backing Anthropic for the first time earlier this year. At that point, the company was already valued at $380 billion. Sequoia invested $3 billion, which granted it about 1% ownership. This investment has already more than doubled in value, reflecting the steep upward trajectory of Anthropic's valuation in a short period.

Sound Ventures, a firm launched by Guy Oseary and actor Ashton Kutcher, also holds a substantial position in Anthropic. The firm initially invested $35 million in the 2023 Series C round. It has since added another $400 million to its total investment. This combined capital now results in a stake worth billions of dollars. It is worth noting that Kutcher left Sound Ventures this year to start a new venture capital firm.

Spark Capital holds the only known board seat at Anthropic among the listed investors. The firm invested $75 million during the 2023 Series C round when the company was valued at $5 billion. That position has ballooned more than ninetyfold. Today, Spark Capital's stake is valued at approximately $7 billion. This growth highlights the extraordinary returns possible for investors who entered the market at an earlier stage.

As Anthropic moves closer to its public offering, these figures underscore the scale of the windfall for its backers. The company's journey from a $461 million valuation in 2021 to a potential $2 trillion listing illustrates the explosive nature of the current AI market. For investors like Schmidt, Sequoia, and Spark Capital, the coming months will be a critical period as they prepare to convert their paper wealth into realized gains through the IPO process.
