The Los Angeles Police Department has set a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest of a driver who fled the scene of a fatal crash in South Los Angeles. The incident left a 7-year-old boy dead and his 39-year-old father with severe injuries.

The collision occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday, November 6, on Figueroa Street between 77th and 78th streets. Authorities state that the child ran into the roadway and was struck by two separate vehicles. One driver stayed at the scene, while the second, operating a dark colored four-door sedan, drove away.

LAFD paramedics transported the father and son to a local hospital. The father was listed in serious condition. The child later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

A witness who spoke on the condition of anonymity described the child being hit in the middle of the street. "The 7-year-old got hit in the middle of the street," she said. "Just flew and, and we all were just screaming like it's was just like some stuff you would never want to see out here." She noted that the family lives near the crash site. The witness said the boy's mother screamed when she saw her son's body in the street.

"I understand that lady's pain and that scream, it's something that you would never, ever, it was like came from her soul and I feel sorry for her," the witness added. She described the scene as chaotic, noting that bystanders had to walk around the street to pass.

Detectives with the LAPD South Traffic Division are searching for the suspect driver. The reward applies to information that results in the identification, apprehension, and conviction of the suspect, or to the resolution of the case through a civil compromise.

The department urges motorists to pull over, stop, and notify emergency services if involved in a collision. Members of the public can contact Detective Nily at (323) 421-2577. During business hours, callers should dial 1-877-527-3247. Those wishing to remain anonymous may call L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or visit www.lacrimestoppers.org.
